National Breastfeeding Week
I have been breastfeeding exclusively for 6 months. (yes I want my Scooby snack) because I believe that most people think that breastfeeding is very easy. They only see what it appears to be, a quick tit whip out and you're done. However, the things you don't see are the sore nipples, engorgement, and the fact that you have less freedom. You are always on call. You and your breast need to be available for every feeding; morning, noon and night (I'm breastfeeding now as I type this post).
I have breastfed literally almost everywhere. Church (as the offering plate was going around). The Mall( whipped it right out while I was trying on the same shoe in black and in nude). Restaurant(Ruth Chris to be exact) On side of the road. On the toilet. (need I say more?) Last weekend, I had a moms night out, and I had to hand self express my milk into the toilet of the women's restroom in the club. Its not all easy & fun.
Breastfeeding is literally an on-call job , that you're ALWAYS called to. Believe me It can become very exhausting. But I must say it is the most beautiful thing between mommy and baby. I wouldn't have it any other way. The skin-to-skin contact during breastfeeds gives you a connection with your baby and it provides protection, warmth and comfort for babies. The contact encourages a growing affecting between the two of you that will play an important role in your infant's growth for a long time
I plan to breastfeed Marley until she is 1 years old, however that may be a different story once her teeth come in. I will keep you guys posted on the next 6 months of my breastfeeding journey.
Moms!! Please feel free to share your experience below. I would love to hear about all the crazy places you have breastfed.
